You should register with every bulletin board, registry, and list
you can find. The more exposure the better chance there is
that someone will find you, or recognize something about your story.
The best place to register, which is a must if you are serious
is:
INTERNATIONAL SOUNDEX REUNION REGISTRY
P.O. BOX 2312
CARSON CITY, NV 89702
(702)882-7755
This is a mutual consent registry. Send a SASE or call for
registration forms. This is a FREE Reunion Registry.
You should write to the state where you were adopted to find out
about receiving your non-identifying information. A couple of
good sites for State information are: Vital
Records Information and State
Addresses. Once you have a name use the search engines
(ie.Yahoo,Switchboard, etc,) to look up a phone number and address.
If you have a phone number and no name Yahoo has a reverse
search feature.
When contacting Vital records departments or other institutions
it may be better not to mention that you are an adoptee or birth
parent unless you are asked directly. Genealogy Research seems
to work good for some people, and that is in truth what you are
doing, researching your heritage. When making personal
contact, TRUTH is what we are all after, and TRUTH is what we should
all use.
I wish you all the very best of luck in your searches and I hope
there are many happy reunions!
